Congress President Election 19 Oct
Congress President Election 19 Oct :- Today, as the votes were being counted, Shashi Tharoor’s supporters claimed that the election had been rigged and demanded that all votes cast in Uttar Pradesh be declared invalid. Mallikarjun Kharge’s group attacked him, calling the accusations “BJP language.” The results of the voting, which took place on October 17, will probably be made public between 3 and 4 p.m. today.
It will be the first time in 24 years that the party elects a party chief who is not a member of the Nehru-Gandhi family thanks to the participation of former Union Ministers Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor.
Sonia Gandhi, who had been acting as president pro tem since Rahul Gandhi resigned from the position following the party’s disastrous showing in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, will be replaced by the new president.
The odds-on favourite to win are in favour of Mallikarjun Kharge. According to sources, two agents from each side will be held back while five agents from each side will supervise the counting.
Vote counting is scheduled to start at 10 am. After the votes have been counted, the Central Election Authority Chairman will declare the outcome.
At the conclusion of the party’s organisational polls, more than 9,500 delegates participated in the presidential election by casting ballots. According to sources, there will be seven to eight tables set up for the vote counting, with two people at each table.
Between 3 and 4 pm is when the outcome is most likely to be announced. The ballot boxes from the state capitol have arrived at the location for counting in the Congress office.
According to sources within the Congress, the newly elected president will take office after Diwali in front of a gathering of senior leaders at the Congress headquarters. It is unclear if the winner will receive the certificate on Wednesday or at a later date.
While Tharoor, a pioneer in social media and a frequent outspoken speaker, joined the Congress only in 2009 after a lengthy tenure at the UN, Mallikarjun Kharge is a grassroots politician and ardent supporter of the Gandhi family.
Prior to the election, Kharge had stated that if elected party president, he would not feel guilty about seeking the Gandhi family’s counsel and support in managing the party’s affairs.
By supporting Kharge, some senior leaders, according to Tharoor, were “indulging in ‘netagiri’ and telling party workers that they know who Sonia Gandhi wants elected,” he said. Madhusudan Mistry, the head of the Congress Central Election Authority, arrives in Delhi at the party headquarters.
The presidential election for the party has begun counting votes. Mallikarjun Kharge’s counting agent Gaurav Gogoi also arrives at the headquarters. After Shashi Tharoor claimed there was election rigging, Salman Soz, one of his election agents, said, “We have been in constant communication with Madhusudan Mistry’s office, informed them about many different issues, cannot get into its specifics at this time.”
“It is a historic occasion. We are pleased with how democratically our election was conducted. We are also grateful to Sonia Gandhi for assuming leadership of the party during a trying time. Congress will strengthen further in the future, “said Mallikarjun Kharge’s counting agent Gaurav Gogoi.
Shashi Tharoor, the election agent for the Congress presidential candidate, writes a letter to Madhusudhan Mistry, the chairman of the Congress Central Election Authority, alleging “extremely serious irregularities in the conduct of the election in UP” and demanding “that all votes from UP be deemed invalid.”
Shashi Tharoor, the presidential candidate for the Congress, today said “big thank you” to everyone who participated in the party’s internal elections.
Shashi Tharoor, a congressman from Thiruvananthapuram, tweeted, “A big “thank you” from me to who all contributed to making this historic event a landmark in the evolution of our politics as the counting in the @INCIndia presidential elections begins.
All the ballots were mixed up before the votes were counted in an effort to conceal how many votes each of the two candidates, Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor, received from a specific state. Results will be made public later on in the day after the counting is finished.
Tharoor’s team also raised significant concerns about the conduct of the elections in Punjab and Telangana in a separate letter to the chairman of the Congress Central Election Committee.
Although Tharoor had repeatedly brought up the issue of an unfair playing field during the elections, he insisted that the Gandhis had guaranteed him impartiality.
Shashi Tharoor was a member of the G-23, or group of dissenters, who wrote to Sonia Gandhi in 2020 requesting an organisational overhaul and “clear, full-time and visible leadership.” Shashi Tharoor is the first party leader to formally enter the race to become the next Congress president.
